Hello everyone, good morning!

Today, we’re diving into the magic of Nordic folklore! I’ve always drawn deep inspiration from nature and places I love, and that’s exactly what shaped The Golden Shoes that Disappeared. The story takes readers into the mystical Northern Swedish Archipelago, where every forest, island, and creature has a life of its own.

It’s been a journey writing this book, and though it’s taken a bit longer than planned (just a few more illustrations to go!), I’m excited to start sending query letters to publishing houses and agents soon. Wish me luck!

For my fellow writers out there—how are your projects coming along? Drop a comment below, I’d love to hear about your work! I truly think you’re all going to love this story once it’s complete, with all the adventure, friendship, and magic it has to offer. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

In The Golden Shoes that Disappeared, the rich landscapes and enchanted creatures of Nordic folklore come to life, transporting readers to a world of mystery, adventure, and magic. Set in the stunning Northern Swedish Archipelago, the story blends the beauty of the midnight sun and the allure of untamed islands with a host of unforgettable characters—drawing deeply from the ancient tales of the North.

The Heart of Nordic Folklore

Nordic folklore is known for its captivating array of supernatural beings and natural wonders, where the forests, lakes, and mountains have spirits and secrets of their own. In The Golden Shoes that Disappeared, we encounter magical figures like Thorwald the wise forest gnome, and Bellinda, a water horse with the mystical role of guarding a freshwater spring. These characters echo the spirit of Nordic folklore, where even the most unusual creatures hold wisdom and power.

One of the story’s main antagonists, Captain Snorgars, and his band of quirky but dangerous pirates bring both humor and darkness to the story, reflecting the blend of mischief and menace often seen in Nordic myth. The villainous plot to steal Bellinda’s golden shoe threatens the delicate magic of the archipelago, setting off an adventure full of wonder, bravery, and cunning.

Legendary Creatures and Familiar Characters

From water horses to bog trolls and cunning gnomes, The Golden Shoes that Disappeared is filled with creatures inspired by Nordic legends. These beings are not just part of the landscape—they are woven into the life and rhythms of the islands. Thorwald, the loyal gnome, embodies the wisdom and earthy connection of forest spirits, while Bellinda, the water horse, evokes a guardian spirit, tied deeply to the enchanted spring she protects. Their roles reflect the respect for nature and the mystical found in traditional Scandinavian tales, where humans and animals alike hold sacred duties.

Even the landscapes in The Golden Shoes that Disappeared are rooted in folklore. Magical islands like Skeleton Island and Storholmen are filled with unexpected enchantments, from hidden bogs to haunted cliffs. These settings bring readers into a world where natural beauty and mystery coexist, capturing the sense of awe and reverence so integral to Nordic culture.

Adventure and the Spirit of the North

The Golden Shoes that Disappeared takes readers on a journey that is as much about the friendship between Ludwig and Thorwald as it is about exploring magical landscapes. With a lynx for a hero and a wise gnome and loyal seal as his friends, their quest is both whimsical and brave, embodying the spirit of Nordic folklore where the smallest creatures can be heroes and even the most innocent-seeming forests hold power.

Through this adventure, readers are reminded of the lessons of courage, loyalty, and respect for nature—values deeply held in Nordic storytelling. The book’s vivid descriptions and memorable characters make the story a celebration of fantasy inspired by a rich heritage, where old myths find new life.

Embracing Nordic Magic

For those who love the magic of fantasy rooted in real-world mythologies, The Golden Shoes that Disappeared is a captivating dive into the mystical traditions of the North. As Ludwig, Sally and Thorwald journey across islands and face trolls, cunning pirates, and magical creatures, they bring readers into a realm where every shadow, spring, and island has a story to tell. This tale is an invitation to experience the wonder of Nordic folklore—a world where the natural and the supernatural meet, and adventure awaits those who dare to believe.
